Shining Brightly and Safely

During the holidays, many people decorate their homes with bright strands of lights, trees, and decorations. This year, West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative and Safe Electricity encourage you to include decorating safely in your holiday traditions.

Before the decorating begins, inspect all the lights you plan on using. Make sure the wires are in good condition—not cracked, brittle, or frayed. The sockets should not be damaged, and no light bulbs should be missing.
Place fresh-cut trees as well as artificial ones away from heat sources such as heat registers, fireplaces, radiators, and televisions; and water a fresh-cut tree frequently.

October is National Cooperative Month, and West Kentucky Rural Electric – and all co-ops across the U.S. – are celebrating the benefits and values that cooperatives bring to their members and communities.

While co-ops operate in many industries and sectors of the economy, seven cooperative principles set us apart from other businesses: voluntary and open membership; democratic member control; member’s economic participation; autonomy and independence; education, training and information; cooperation among cooperatives; and concern for community.

Overnight power outage planned for Calvert City/Gilbertsville area on October 21

(Mayfield, Ky.) October 19, 2015 – About 600 West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative members in the Calvert City/Gilbertsville area of Marshall County will be affected by an overnight power outage this week. The outage will begin around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night, October 21, and continue through around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, October 22. During the outage Tennessee Valley Authority line crews will repair transmission lines that provide electricity to West Kentucky Rural Electric’s Gilbertsville substation.

Beck named top Overall Apprentice

(Mayfield, Ky.) August 20, 2015 – Western Kentucky Rural Electric continued its winning ways at the 2015 Kentucky Lineman's Rodeo with Apprentice Lineman Geoffrey Beck, Mayfield, taking home top honors in the Overall Apprentice Lineman category. Also representing WKRECC were Apprentice Lineman Zach Underhill, Hazel, and Lineman Kevin England, Mayfield. The team was coached by veteran Lineman Ryan Morton, Benton.

West Kentucky Rural Electric hosts Member Appreciation Days

West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative is hosting Member Appreciation Days at its three business offices to celebrate National Cooperative Month. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and there will be door prize drawings and giveaways for kids. Members are encouraged to stop by for food, fun and fellowship.
