During the holidays, many people decorate their homes with bright strands of lights, trees, and decorations. This year, West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative and Safe Electricity encourage you to include decorating safely in your holiday traditions.
Before the decorating begins, inspect all the lights you plan on using. Make sure the wires are in good condition—not cracked, brittle, or frayed. The sockets should not be damaged, and no light bulbs should be missing.
Place fresh-cut trees as well as artificial ones away from heat sources such as heat registers, fireplaces, radiators, and televisions; and water a fresh-cut tree frequently.
